The name.

Inspired by Finnish mythology, the company name roughly translates to Far-Know. Kinda sounds like a fantasy-novel character, or a shamanistic skill, no? At it's best, doing data science and coding can feel like wizardry. The web provides technology to gather and deliver knowledge at a distance. Combining those things is what KAUKOTIETO does.

My name is Janne-Tuomas Seppänen and I'm the CEO, receptionist, strategist, resident PhD scientist, IT-support and snacks delivery dude around here.

With over two decades of diverse experience as a scientist, entrepreneur, web developer, information specialist and scholarly impact analytics expert, I founded KAUKOTIETO in 2025 to gain the freedom to put all that into use.
